Current Music Picks...

One thing I'd like to regularly exchange ideas about is music.

A great CD I picked up recently is "Funeral" by Arcade Fire.

In my best estimation, this band sounds like a more modern version of The Talking Heads... They were also recently interviewed on NPR. Well worth the purchase.

Also, check out Herbie Hancock -- The Blue Note Sixties Sessions 6-CD box set. This box set is great. In all reality, it's not a complete compilatiton of Hancock's work on Blue Note during the sixties. Within this set is only the work in which he headlined. His work as a sideman during these years is not included. Still, this box set is exceptional.

Know anything about a song called "I love this town"? Probably something they would play on KFOG. The singer sounds a little like Emmy Lou.

Nanci Griffith rocks. That song's on her most recent album, right? I was considering picking it up. In fact, I probably will now that you've got me going...

If you like that song, you should check out Laura Love. She's got a version of Wayfaring Stranger that's absolutely amazing! Also, the soundtrack to O Brother Where Art Thou is filled with Allison Kraus, Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch and the Stanley Bros -- one of the better soundtracks I've purchased recently...

Vavoom - Just a word about that tomw character. Watch him. He's crafty! (He's a relative...I can say that!)

I'm really curious about the "Brother" sound track. I'm a HUGE Allison Krauss fan, yet I've yet to add this CD to my collection. Please tell me more.

Ciao,
MW

Thanks for your insight on Nancy Griffith. My wife had heard the song, liked it, but didn't know the artist. Know anything about Guy Clark? We get to see Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt on Friday and he is part of the bill.

Actually, I think Guy Clark is the most talented guy on the bill! There's a song he sings called "Homeless" that's fantastic. It's on his latest album The Dark. Personally, I'm more a Charlie Rich kind of guy. If you haven't heard him, tomw, then you haven't lived! Favorite Charlie Rich song = Life Has its Little Ups and Downs.

The show was great and I really enjoyed Guy Clark. I didn't know the name or anything he played Friday night, but I discovered after the show that I do know (and like) several of his songs. I found out that he wrote "Boats To Build", which is my 3 year old's favorite song. You seem like quite the intellectual. Are you really friends with THC?
