Achilles Heel.

As a result of being on my feet about 14 hours a day, my Achilles tendon is beginning to feel like it's going to snap. I'm not so sure what's wrong, but now I have an interesting, but painful, "pimp limp."

We all know the mythical story of Achilles. This son of King Peleus was dipped into the river Styx by his sea nymph mother, Thetis. Presumably this would make him immortal. Alas, she forgot to dip his heel into the river, rendering Achilles' heel a vulnerability. Lo and behold, an arrow to the heel killed Achilles and what a lesson we all learned. Or at least that's how the story goes.

This brings me to our topic du jour. I've always believed that it is unrealized weaknesses that do people in. What is your biggest weakness? Do you think you have weaknesses that you have yet to discover?

I never did get that story. I mean really, did his heel get infected or something? It doesn't make sense! How do you kill someone by shooting them in the heel???

I have way too many weaknesses, and I am not going to tell you what they are. :p

My greatest weakness would be my inability to say "no" to my children. Because they're so good, I'm spoiling the crap out of them.

I have a hard time saying no to people, and I have a stubborn streak that gets me in to trouble more often than it helps me. I often speak first think later, and hurt feelings without intending to. And there are so many others...

Can't appreciate your strengths without your weaknesses I guess.
(Plus they keep me from getting the big head!)

Oh, I forgot to mention... My biggest weakness is my perpetual state of self deprecation. Man, I suck.

I love Greek mythology. It's a good story.

I'd say my biggest weakness is that I'm very self-involved.

Vavoom, take care of your Achilles - they are known to "snap" and that's a very painful injury with a long recovery.
It's actually quite timely that you inquire about my greatest weakness, as I just went through my annual performance appraisal at work with the same question. Professionally, I'd say it's my inability to say no to customers...It's probably the sales person in me that just won't say no, even if the deal is a bit shaky...kind of drives the boss a bit bonkers. Personally, I've got a real weakness for my kids--I'm way to indulgent. Probably related to my inability to say no at work. The good news is that although they are spoiled, they aren't brats....

Finally, an easy question for a simpleton like me, lol.

You've got a pimp limp, huh? That sounds painful. Take some ibuprofen. My weakness is ice cream. And cookies. And sour gummy worms.

I won't comment on my weaknesses, they are too numerous to list. I will say that you are probably right about unknown weakness being our biggest downfall.

Oh please! He was a "God"! He didn't know to put a Band-Aid on it???

And I think you already know my biggest weakness... It's over analyzing stuff. You give me something to think about, and I'll keep thinking about it till it drives me crazy! I know it's silly, but I can't help it.

Maybe I'm just looking for a "pure" truth, that just isn't out there.

I have a lot of weaknesses, but my worst is that I'm very non-confrontational. I HATE conflict. I usually don't come out of the corner swinging until I'm so angry I can't see.

Two words for you Vavoom - Dansko shoes. If you're on your feet that much, you absolutely need to invest in a good pair of shoes.

I LOVE Gree Mythology! RT, babe, you're forgetting the mythology part. Sheesh. I still loves ya.

It's funny that you had this post, because I was JUST recently called "Achilles" by D'Jork. Coinkydink? I think not!

Anyhow, I can't think of any weaknesses off hand, but I'm sure I have some.

My biggest weakness is fear. I'm often fearful of the things in the future over which I have no control.

Listen, Vavoom, you really need to get a hold of that self-deprication problem of yours.
You really suck!

My daughter and I have returned from our trip to Asia. I've posted a link to pictures. Hope you stop by.

Oh, my second biggest weakness is GOOD southern cooking. I could just die for it!

Pimp limp! I love it!

My biggest weakness is fear. I let it take over, control my thinking, and ultimately drive me into places that waste too much of my time.

Jenn: I didn't forget about the mythology part. I'm just saying that if their going to write the story...

Oh wait. You're messing with me, aren't you? Why??? Why would you do that? I thought you liked me :o(

I love mythology...thanks for the story. ONE of my biggest weakness is adopting homeless animals, especially the little ones like rats, birds etc.

Ok, about the Achilles myth. The idea is that as his mother tried to make him invulnerable by lowering him into the river Styx while holding onto him by the back of his ankle (Achilles tendon.) Not thinking, she figured that did it but her hand kept the area from getting the same treatment.

The moral(s): Moms make mistakes and trying to become perfect will make your flaws more obvious.
