The Shakedown.

I'm not sure why, but I love to bargain. Today I haggled with a company and got them to agree to give me a $30,000 detector for free. Nothing could be more satisfying.

I think I like it because I'm damn good at it. My Father, ever the bean counter, always taught me to get the best price I could no matter what the situation. I've always viewed such negotiations like a great game of chess.

I know that some people hate haggling. I'm curious, what's wrong with a little penny pinching pugilism?

You shouldn't penny pinch on toilet paper.

Nothing is wrong with haggling. Most places won't do it though. the price is the price. Now teh car dealers aren't haggling any more. It's going the way of bartering.

I think that there are a lot of non-confrontational people out there that feel they'd be offending someone by offering less than the marked price. I'm getting better at it. Pawn shops are great practice especially on an item that's been there a long time.

I am one of those people who hate to haggle. I would rather just pay full price than risk embarrassment.

haggling has never been a problem for me. it's the negotiating UP that usually stumps me, especially for a salary! i dunno why, but i feel bad asking for money when it comes to myself.

You got a $30,000 thingie for free?!?!?!

Now that you have done that, you need to graduate to the big game! I will give you a chance to prove that you are the haggling king!

I will fly you to the next Miami Boat Show. Haggle with someone and get me a free boat. This will prove that you are the best haggler in the history on the universe!

I want to buy the house next door as an investment and think the price is about 20k too much.

Can I use the "phone a friend" option?

Well, I don't do it because of what Martin said. Non-confrontational and don't want to hurt feelings. I have this problem of caring more about other's than myself. Even if it is some person at a store or even worse a flee market.

Will you teach me, Vavoom?

I like to bargain depending on what and where it is. If I'm grocery shopping I usually don't, but like, for computer stuff, or at the swap meet, I will... But I think those people expect it to a degree.

Have you ever had someone haggling with themselves for you? :o)

Getting a great deal is like a high.
That's why I was SOOO bummed, when I heard there was a three story 100 yen store in Japan, and I missed it!!!

I'm duly impressed--$30,000 detector thingy for free! Nice going. I'm such a bad haggler, but at the same time I don't like being taken advantage of. Consequently, I've ended up leaving Hong Kong with less stuff than planned.
