Headline News.

Have any of you watched a full half hour of CNN's headline news? Good Lord, it's terrible. It's clear that CNN has been trying to reach out to a younger demographic through headline news. I just watched them do a bit about whether or not a guy could beat a monkey in NFL picks. What the hell? Is stupidity really an effective outreach tactic for news organizations? What's your take on the dumbing down of mainstream television news?

In other news: The exam went well. Thanks for all of your kind comments. I'm headed up to New Hampshire this afternoon for a conference. I'll be there all weekend. I'm sharing a room with 3 of my labmates. Yes, you read that right, 3 labmates. I just received an e-mail from a labmate: "Guys, I just realized I screwed up. There are only two beds in our room. Since I scheduled the room, I think I'm entitled to one of the beds. We'll figure out who gets the other bed when we get there." I'm excited to see New Hampshire and I'm equally excited to find a room with a bed. Have a great weekend!

The guy who screwed up is not entitled to a bed. What dipshit thinks that rooms have 4 beds for max occupants of 4. Cuddle close I hear those New Hampshire nights can be cold.

I hear you, LA. Three weeks ago, this dude told us that they were "cabin rooms" with four beds. The fault is mine -- I let him handle my accomodations. I'll figure something out. I could be in the grips of hypothermia and I still wouldn't huddle with these people. I can promise you that much.

Wait, tell me more about the monkey and the football picks! Who does the monkey like in the Chargers/Chiefs game?

I don't know, sorry to say, but there are a lot of dumb people in the world... I think it will only get worse with television shows.

To answer your question the different types of skittles do have about the same Rainbow percentage within them.

Tell your labmate that he/she should not get a bed to him/herself because of the screw up. Or at least make him/her do cleaning in lab, like scrub hoods or whatever it is that you guys have as the undesirable job in your lab.

I'm so glad your exam went well. Since your labmate screwed up, he should be the one on the floor. Hope your weekend goes well. Good luck!

dumbing down has been going down for quite awhile m'dear..as for younger audiences..they are the reason for most of the crap being infantile..

lmao about the room problem..i am sorry..really, but you know I needed a laugh and that did it Vavoom..personally I would tell that guy he can have the bed if he pays the entire tab..jackass that he is..

And these news channels think they are actually doing us a favour. Bah! I don't watch TV normally, when I do, I prefer.. oh, the BBC. At least they assume the watchers have a brain, and are't just couch potatoes.

I'm glad you did well in the exam, and lmao for your bed predicament... and I hope hypethermia never comes anywhere near you. It's dangerous for body extremities. Can you find other rooms? Refuse to pay. :D

I'd take dibs on the bath tub but it you are there for a long stay, screw that. If he messed up the accommodations, he's on the floor. As for mainstream news. Yeah, it seems that they throw in low-brow segments more and more. I guess it's to attract anyone with a pulse. It's pretty difficult to find news that isn't focused on one single topic for an hour or so unfocused that you get a headache. I use those weird segments to get snacks or check other channels.

Glad to hear the exam went well. If need be, I'd sleep on the floor. Actually, the idiot who screwed up should be the one on the floor.

Happy for you that the exam went well and hope you have fun in NH. Did you get to see snow this weekend? We saw that there were some flakes in Boston.

I can't wait to find out what happened? Hopefully you guys requested a cot for the 3rd person, the bathtub just seems so uncomfotable.

Yep. I'm pretty dissatisfied with the news, also. I've seen a lot of it go down hill in the last ten years or so (too much opinion, not enough 'news') but CNN in particular has been spiraling here lately. I think I read somewhere that they have a new director that's been changing things up... And there's not a lot of happy campers out there. Hopefully, they'll ditch him soon.

I'm glad your exam went well! But in all honesty, I wasn't worried. I knew you could do it :o)

As for having to share such a small space with three men, I know you're not looking for sympathy here! I could only dream! (Yeah I know, you're a guy and don't see it quite the same, but... )
