Deconstructing George.

I'm feeling a tad ornery today. Could someone please tell me what George W. Bush has done well? We're trapped in an ill advised war, current government spending is bordering on recklessness, religious conservatism is deeply intertwined with public policy and unethical practices abound (read: torture and CIA leaks).

It's not surprising that W's numbers are down. It's not clear what he's doing well.

I never supported the war in Iraq. I've always stood against government bloat and spending. I dislike the typical "I told you so" mentality that most liberals are taking, but for God's sake wasn't it clear all of this was coming? Conservatives often claim that Democrats don't have ideas. I tend to think having no ideas is better than implementing bad ideas.

I'm asking for your objective opinion. What has George W. Bush done well?

Cutting taxes for the wealthy and corporate wellfare. A+ in those areas.

la: I should revise my question -- what *beneficial* things has he done well?

beneficial to overall society or the nation you mean because someone certainly benefitted from those moves. His base.

Didn't Bush leave no child behind? I remember something about that. How is that going? Maybe his 2 supreme court appointees can help him out with that unfunded mandate lawsuit from the states.

He has taught me that the AVERAGE person can become president... as long as you have money and connections in this country you are set. Forget about working hard...

This question comes up every once in a while on my blog...and nobody can ever answer it.

He did promote an African-American woman to Secretary of State, so that's an actual, real good thing he did, but she's not very qualified for the position, so that's bad. And he has several policies that would be very good (like leaving no child behind) if he bothered to actually fund and implement them.

Mostly, Bush's presidency is a failed one. History will judge him our worst President by far, and the most destructive to America by an even wider margin.

The Sec of State is highly qualified if this was the 70's or 80's as a Russian expert.

Calling Bush the worst ever is pretty harsh. Maybe we can give ourselves a few years in the future before deciding on Bush. There were somne real stinkers right before the civil war and after reconstruction.

I think Pres. Bush handled 9/11 well. That tragic devastation occured during his term and I am glad he was in charge rather than "someone else".

I have always had trouble seeing what a president does as astounding. Sure, he's a figurehead and can urge policy but it still has to be voted on. I do like the way he handled 9/11. I also like the Fed's temporary interest rate decrease to stimulate an economy that was struggling. I like a few of his policies that didn't get enough backing (Social Security stands out most) but I believe support for most of his ideas is tenuous as most in his party are fearful of what the next election may bring. I'm far from thinking he walks on water though.

Boy, I couldn't disagree with you more about 9/11, Well Woman.

What exactly is it about Bush's handeling of 9/11 that you like?

Is it the way he ignored intelligence about Al-Quaida infiltrating flight schools pre 9/11? In my opinion it's a fallacy to think that 9/11 would definately have happened with a different president.

Is it the way that he quickly twisted that terrible tragedy to his own ends by making false connections between Al-Quaida and Iraq?

Or is it the way that he still has yet to capture Osama Bin Laden, the man reponsible for these heinous crimes?

I have a feeling that you like Bush becuase he appeared on TV and looked solemn. Anyone could have done that. If I'm wrong, let me know.

Bush has the lowest IQ for any president. It is 91, only 11 points higher than a trained gorilla :) Ok, as you can tell, I am not his biggest supporter.
